Magic Johnson commits $100,000 to support the Quality Life Center at Pickup the Ball fundraiser

At a press conference at the Quality Life Center this evening, Magic Johnson announced that he would be contributing $100,000 to the Quality Life Center’s efforts to sustain its programs in the Fort Myers community.

The anouncement was completely unexpected and took both Quality Life Center’s Abdul Haq Muhammed, pictured on the left (Mr. Johnson’s right) and Pickup the Ball’s Ted Sottong (on the right, Mr. Johnson’s left), off guard. Magic Johnson was incredibly prepared and well-versed in the Quality Life Center’s programs and current issues, including a financial struggle to keep their facility from which they serve the community. As Mr. Johnson pointed out, his generous contribution is only the start, and needs to be matched by corporations and individuals in the community to support this instituion so important to the kids and the future of this community.

Pickup the Ball is so grateful to Magic Johnson not only for his contribution, but for bringing awareness to the Quality Life Center, and for challenging the community to step up and do their part.

Mr. Johnson also expressed interest in engaging in a discussion about how kids from the “Q” could benefit from Mr. Johnson’s scholarship program.
